About Acomplia

Since I made a blog post about the new weight loss drug Acomplia -- or Accomplia as the original article I saw misspelled it -- I have been literally bombarded with questions about this new 'wonder' drug. Well, I'm certainly not an expert when it comes to pharmaceutical diet drugs and Acomplia is no exception. So please don't write me asking for advice or purchasing info because I just can't give it!

Acomplia Alternatives

Even though Acomplia does appear to have some promise in early tests, it is far from being a 'perfect' solution for weight loss and obesity. Like all drugs, there are sure to be some side effects. Hopefully no serious ones but, when it comes to pharmaceuticals, you just never know. This is especially true now that the FDA has been shown to be more than a little inept when it comes to monitoring drug safety.

In my opinion, the majority of synthetic drugs used to treat chronic conditions have far more drawbacks than benefits. Eating well, doing some form of regular exercise, drinking sufficient water, and even just cutting sugar out of your diet will do a lot more for your long-term health than any drug -- including Acomplia!

One thing that does worry me about all the Acomplia emails I've received is the number of people asking how they can participate in the drug trials required for FDA-approval. What they're basically saying is that they're willing to risk their health and even their lives in order to be among the first to try a new diet drug that we still know very little about. I hope that anyone who is that desperate to lose weight will at least try some of the proven, health-promoting techniques mentioned above (as well as in our weight loss guide) before giving in to the quick-fix temptations offered by Acomplia and other 'miracle' diet drugs.

I was in one of the trials for Acomplia (Rimonabant) but not for weight loss: for smoking cessation. True, there are physical side effects of this drug, that I experienced during the study (negative effects)... There's also some incredibly positive side effects of this drug:: I was able to quit smoking for nearly 4 months (I went back to smoking as my roommate smokes - hard to do in a house with another smoker), my cholesterol dropped. My weight stabilized, I didn't "crave" chocolate as much (kitkat bar addict here... hahaha)... I absolutely, 100% agree that "wonder drug" is a bad label for this drug, and for certain people, using it to get weight off:: bad idea. For me however, I tried using the patch, gum, lozenges, hypnotherapy, regular counseling, cold turkey, etc.. to quit. NONE was as effective as "acomplia".... I will be first in line when it comes out, to get a real prescription, to quit smoking... If I havn't been successful by then (Back to the gum...)
