Delicious Smoothie Recipe
From eFitness.com:
Your After-Workout Reward
If you're doing some serious sweating at the gym, you'll have a hunger to match after your workout. But, if you're watching your weight, you don't want to go hog wild and raid the kitchen, only to take back the calories you just gave your all to burn off. What's the solution?
When the timing of your workout doesn't coincide with a meal (say, you're working out at 3 p.m. and it's too early for dinner afterwards), whirl together a smoothie in your blender. Smoothies provide just the right refreshment, rehydrating your body and giving you a quick shot of nutrients and energy.
Of course, some commercially made smoothies can reverse your hard work too, packing more than 500 calories and 10 grams of fat. To play it safe and get what you need to fuel up and feel your best after a session at the gym, try this low-fat power smoothie -- you get fiber, protein, calcium and vitamin C in every sip.
Banana Split Smoothie
Makes 1 serving
1/2 cup fat-free cherry frozen yogurt
1/2 banana, sliced
1/2 cup skim milk
1/4 cup frozen sour cherries
1 tablespoon whey protein powder
Combine ingredients in a blender and puree until smooth.

Sounds pretty good, but I tend to stay away from fruit drinks / smoothies. I just don't care for them much. Can you recommend a similar drink made with chocolate? I've been unable to create a really great tasting but healthy chocolate (or banana chocolate) smoothie.

Try using a chocolate-flavored whey protein powder or add some sugar-free cocoa powder (which is also an excellent antioxidant!)...
Most smoothie receipies, such as yours, use milk. I am allergic to dairy including whey protein and have had to get a bit creative. For those who can not have dairy may I suggest using the numerous Soy, Almond, Oat, Hazelnut and other "milks" available at most healthfood stores. Soy has some odd properties that are good for you, but maybe not be in high doses. Because of this I switch to the other milks during the week.
Starting with about 1.5 cups of the above milks. I add a big scoop or two of peanut butter. Some frozen strawberries to cool the mix. Alternatively, I add frozen rasberry sorbet. Next a large bannana. Some cocoa powder. And some Egg protein powder. If you are really daring, add some rolled oats in there (quaker oats). Blend with a good blender and drink up. Yumm.
My wife hates these drinks, and depending on your taste preferences you may too. I love the darn things. I also think of them as medicine. If you want to get the health benefits from food, you may have to sacrifice, the sweet, gooey tastes that we naturally find so appealing.
If you want to add some omega-3's to this, squirt some flax oil in there. Better yet, just take a tablespoon of flax separately. That's what I do. Happy blending.
Great advice. Thanks!
Speaking of flax...is there a difference between flax oil and flax seeds, I mean, in terms of benefits?

it's called flaxseed oil; I have purchased it in pill form from Walgreens- you can get it anywhere vitamins are sold. Pills don't have a yucky aftertaste.
