least 5 times as healthy as you are now in just 12 months? The fact
is, most people can easily do exactly that! Follow the 12 steps below
and you can reduce your risk of cancer and other diseases, dramatically
improve your fitness level, and basically 'revamp' your entire body!
Remember: The diet, fitness, and personal health decisions you make
today will affect you for the rest of your life....so make good ones!
12 Steps to Great Health in a Year
- Begin eating 5-10 servings of fruits and vegetables per day.
This is probably the single most important thing you can do today
for your overall health!
- Cut out simple sugars. Simple sugar - especially high fructose
corn syrup - is very, very bad for your overall health. Limit your
intake of sugar-containing foods at all times.
- If you smoke, quit. There are many good programs and products
now available to help you!
- Get your cholesterol checked. If it's high, begin eating
a big bowl of whole-oat oatmeal every morning.
- Eat whole grains - and only whole grains. Cut out all white
flour from your diet.
- Begin eating probiotic-rich foods several times per week.
Kefir and yogurt are good options.
- Add some soy foods such as tofu, soy nuts, and/or soy milk
to your diet. Soy has many health and fitness benefits and can actually
taste good!
- Drink little or no alcohol. Drink no more than one glass
of wine or one 12-ounce can of dark beer per day.
- Reduce your portion sizes. Most people eat too many calories
at one meal. Eat smaller meals more frequently -- 5-6 meal/snacks
per day, spaced 2-3 hours apart is best.
- Take a good multinutrient. A high-quality multinutrient
will ensure that your body has all of the vitamins, minerals, and
trace elements it needs to function optimally.
- Reduce stress. Few things affect your health as negatively
as unmanaged stress. Schedule in time for light-to-moderate exercise,
meditation, and/or 'down town' each and every day.
- Limit starchy carbs. Cut down on potatoes (including all
potato products), pasta, breads, cereals, etc.
